Ibrahim Bayesh, however, is confident Iraq can continue their winning momentum against four-time winners Japan, having breezed past Indonesia 3-1 on Matchday One.
For Itakura, facing Iraq will be another test for Japan, who showed resilience in their 4-2 win over Vietnam in their opening tie.

“After the first game, we had a good rest and productive training as well. It’s an important match, and we are focused on performing well in the game. We have worked on our communication and passing game during practice.”

“Some things were unexpected against Vietnam, but it’s the Asian Cup; success is not going to be handed to us on a plate.

“We didn’t play badly, however, there were many positive aspects and we have to capitalise on that for the coming matches.”
With the uphill task of facing Japan looming, Bayesh wants Iraq to be more flexible in Friday’s clash.

“Japan are a quality team,” said Bayesh, who plays for Iraqi Premier League side Air Force Club. “After reflecting on our performance in the previous match, it’s my opinion that we were not at our best. However, we are determined to turn things around in tomorrow’s game. ”

“The challenge is going to be very difficult but we see it as an opportunity to showcase our resilience and elevate our level of play.

“We are focused on making the necessary adjustments and putting forward a strong performance.”
